Call for Residency
MedienKunstLabor Arts Research Residencies
Media artists from Austria and beyond, are invited to apply for a max. two month arts research residency at MedienKunstLabor im Kunsthaus Graz, in Graz, Austria, between July to September of 2009 within the EU project COMEDIA. The deadline for applications is Friday the 19th of June 2009.
Artists are offered a media laboratory space, an accommodation, a payment of 500 EUR per month and access to lab equipment and some technical resources. The emphasis for this residency is on collaborative research and development in the field of robotic arts, especial robotics instruments. At the end, robots should be placed for a 2 weeks exhibition at MKL.
Presently, two kinds of 5 total positions are on offer:
A. Area of robots creation,
B. Area of interactive robotic sound creation (using also PD, max/MSP, Escher-Microcontroller, etc.).
MedienKunstLabor is a non-profit art/science organization with an artist residency, research, and production and training programs. MedienKunstLabor supports interdisciplinary practice, mobility and exchange. MedienKunstLabor engages with artists and researchers to produce work that challenges use and impact of emerging technologies in arts, culture and society.
MedienKunstLabor is a collaborative institution with the Institute of Electronic Music and Acoustics at the University of Music and Performing Arts Graz (KUG) and Technical University Graz (TUG).
Selection criteria: The ability to research, interpret and present innovative ideas. Experience in the field of robotic arts is required. Experience in public presentation of completed work and its proper documentation. Experience in working on fixed term residencies with deadlines.
